Please find enclosed my critique for the NORTHERN  ENGLISH SETTER SOCIETY CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW on  5^th December at Elsecar Heritage Centre, Nr Barnsley, S74 8HJ

ENGLISH SETTERS DOGS.

My co judge was in agreement with FISHWICK DANCING LAD  BiS and the Bitch  SWANNERY FINLANDIA RBiS & BoS

Best  Puppy  LAKECASTLE PRINCESS AT WISTASTON

On the Referees decision WISTASTON SCHOOL TALK TO SORRODALE  Best Veteran.

I was very pleased with my final lineup  and would like to thank all exhibitors for presenting their exhibits in such clean condition, but do feel that we are losing that soft appealing expression, with many exhibits lacking work in the head and chiselling around the eyes.

Minor Puppy (6:0)

1.         Mortimer's BOURNEHOUSE SILVER QUEST AT PHLERDOR Light B/B, good shaped head, dark eye and soft expression. Well angulated fore and aft, short coupled with level topline. A little erratic on the move as to be expected of one so young

2.         Littlechild's RAVENSETT ARMANI   At 9mths a more mature O/B, good spring of rib and short coupled, in good coat and well presented, not quite the elegance of 1.

 3.        Hacking's BENRAE ROYAL VARIETY  .  

 Puppy (2:0)

1.    Golby's SUNHOUSE HERE COMES THE SUN TO SHADYMOORE  Dark O/B pleasing head and dark eye, well boned, straight front and level topline with good bend of stifle, steady driving movement. RBPiS

2.    Hacking's BENRAE ROYAL VARIETY O/B, a promising well constructed  youngster, good overall conformation, just needs time to grow and mature

Junior (9:2)

1.     Schoneville and Derry's BALVENIE BUCCANEER Dark B/B and Tan, a very promising youngster,  most appealing head, well placed shoulders and straight front, good deep chest and spring of rib, well angulated hind quarters, in lovely coat and condition, moved true with real drive. Later informed that this gave him his JW.

2.     Trigwell's HANNAHDENE JUST WILLIAM A very elegant and sound B/B and Tan, lovely head and expression good shape and dark eye, reachy neck, level topline, moved true with drive.

3.     Swannell's RICKORY UP CLOSE N PERSONAL

Veteran (2:0)

1.    Yarrow's WISTASTON SCHOOL TALK TO SORRODALE O/B Over 10years old and still looked a picture, well constructed, moved sound and true, Pleased to see him go BVet i S.

2.     Hammond's BOURNEHOUSE PAPER PARADE FOR OAKTRISH B/B and Tan, another oldie enjoying himself, well bodied level topline, in good coat, just preferred front angulation of 1.  Moved OK. 

Yearling (9:2)

1.    Sayer's MARIGLEN BLUE FLAME FOR CHRISTTER  Elegant light B/B, well proportioned head, arched neck and good shoulder placement, strong hind quarters took a while to settle on the move, just needs time to realise his full potential.

3    Mitchell and Withey's SUNSPRAKE RAGING STORM OVER SCRATCHWOOD

Maiden (0:0)

Novice (6:2)

      1.    Trigwell's HANNAHDENE JUST WILLIAM

2.     Mrs V & Miss V Colville’s ARABIN TRUE BREEZE  B/B and Tan, Attractive head, arched neck, level topline and short coupled. Let himself down on the move.

3.    Slack’s   RAVENSETT. RENAISSANCE

Under Graduate (5:2)

1.    Schoneville and Derry's BALVENIE BUCCANEER

2.    Mrs V & Miss V Colville’s ARABIN TRUE BREEZE

Graduate (7:1)

1.    Grimsdell's TATTERSETT DOCTOR WOODY Well balanced B/B in full coat and feather, his overall sound conformation allowed him to flow over the ground effortlessly, he certainly stood out in this class.

2     Cole's SORBUS JEDI MASTER   A good sound B/B and tan, appealing head, strong bone, level topline, moving sound and steady.

3     Dyke's CALEYDENE TRAVELLING MAN

Post Graduate (10:0)

1.    Sykes' DARAQUIST DOWN UNDER    Lovely O/B, Good head shape with plenty of work and kind expression, super construction, long neck into well angulated forehand, overall balanced with powerful hind quarters giving sound driving movement.

2.     Armstrong's BARGRENNAN GLENESK B/B and Tan another well made dog, lovely head and expression, long neck, shoulder angulation not quite as 1. Deep body with good spring of rib, short coupled and again powerful driving movement from well angulated hind quarters.

3.    Arkley's HARTSETT NORTHERN LIGHTS

Mid Limit  (4:1)

1.     Cooper’s  SETTRENDA CUTS THE MUSTARD  B/B and Tan, well proportioned head with good stop, dark eye and melting expression, long arched neck, straight front, good layback of shoulder,  good body properties and strong well angulated hind quarters, overall a sound dog who moved with style.

2.     Hammond's  HARTSETT PAPER SKYE FOR OAKTRISH  Attractive light O/B good head and eye with gentle expression, deep chest, short coupled, shown in full coat and feather, moved well.

3     Arkley's  HARTSETT POETRY IN MOTION

Limit (10:2)

1.    Wright's FISHWICK DANCING LAD An elegant and balanced O/B who caught my eye with his ring presence, beautiful head with work and chiselling around the eyes giving such a soft and kind expression. His well arched neck flowed into laid back shoulders, deep in rib, short coupled and his strong hind quarters powered him around the ring with real style. Pleased to award him the CC and with the agreement of my co-judge BiS.

2.     Hood's SUNHOUSE THAT'S MY BOY  Another lovely dog who was unfortunate to meet 1 today in such good form, Dark B/B and tan clean outline,  straight front, gorgeous head, long neck and good lay of shoulder, well ribbed and short coupled also moved true and sound.       

3.     Jolley's WANSLEYDALE LOGANBERRY AT JOLYMORE

Open (10:3)

1.    Watkin's WANSLEYDALE ROWANBERRY OF VALSETT  Lovely O/B dog, so sound and balanced, moving with such style and elegance. Certainly worthy of his newly gained crown, unfortunately just lacked that extra bit of sparkle in the challenge. RCC

2.     Tucker's WALSHAW PARTY WITH ME   B/B Lovely head with most endearing eye patch, long neck, well bodied, deep chest and short coupled,  well muscled hind quarters and good bend of stifle allowed him to move with real drive.

3.     Taylor's WANSLEYDALE ORSZAK PRINCE

Special Beginners (1:0)

1.    Brown's TATTERSETT DOUBLE BARREL   B/B and Tan, pleasing head with soft expression, good body properties, sound and happy mover.

I was pleased with the entry for my first Championship Show Appointment. It was a lovely show with a real Christmas atmosphere. The quality on a whole was very good. All exhibits were clean and well presented.  

MINOR PUPPY (2)

1^st        William’s Lakecastle Princess Royal at Wistaston, very pretty Orange Belton, good head and eye, typical melting expression, good straight front and width of chest, level topline, sound mover, moving straight when viewed from front and rear, BP Bitch & BP in Show

2^nd        Hacking’s Benrae Royal Star, Blue Belton & Tan very much a baby just 6 months, lots to like about her, good body proportions, good head and length of neck, deep in chest, good topline, lost out to 1 on maturity & movement.

PUPPY (5, 1)

1^st        Lakecastle Princess Royal at Wistaston

2^nd        Lawson’s Mariglen Ice Crystal, Blue Belton, clean outline, level topline, liked her head and expression, good rear angulation, good spring of rib, good width & depth of chest, feet need to tighten up.

3^rd        Burton’s Redhara Crystal Cracker

4^th        Benrae Royal Star

JUNIOR (4, 1)

1^st        Hill, Muckle, & Littlechild’s, Canonsett All About Romance, pretty Orange Belton, lovely head and expression, good eye, elegant neck into well placed shoulders, level topline, deep in chest, strong bone, good feet, straight front, steady mover.

2^nd        Oliver’s Bramstorm Line Dancer, dark Blue Belton, liked her overall confirmation, good head & dark eye, well placed shoulders, deep chest, good coat, moved well, not a lot between 1 & 2.

3^rd        Tucker’s Walshaw Moonlight and Roses

VETERAN (8, 2) a wonderful class of oldies, it was hard to pick a winner.

1^st        Dykes’s  Caleydene Special Prayer, 81/2 years, dark Blue Belton, compact with good front and rear angulation, liked her head and expression, in full coat moved well with drive.

2^nd        Dennis’s Sh Ch Fenston Arabella at Mariglen, 71/2 years, Orange Belton, with good overall confirmation, beautifully presented in full coat, moved very well, just preferred head of 1

3^rd        Taylor’s Wansleydale Blackbird

4^th        Bradford’s Fields of Gold at Bilandris

5^th        Mitchel & Withey’s Sunsprake Finn’s Fantasy at Scratchwood

YEARLING (6, 1)

1^st        Watkin’s Valsett Starlite Rosey Moon, Orange Belton, quality bitch, lovely head & expression, well balanced, good shoulder placement, depth and width of chest, strong bone, neat feet, correct bend of stifle, in good coat, moved well.

2^nd        Normansell’s Larrenie Sloeberry, Blue Belton & Tan, lots to like about her good head and expression, good overall confirmation, just a bit erratic on the move.

3^rd        Dodd’s Larrenie Rowanberry at Lyncarda

4^th        Mitchell & Withey’s Sunsprake Summer Breeze

5^th        Simpson’s Larrenie Blueberry at Dalreavoch

2^nd        Redhara Crystal Cracker, Blue Belton & Tan, very pretty with lovely head and expression, level topline, good hindquarters, balanced overall, just wasn’t settled at all on the move.

3^rd        Larrenie Blueberry at Dalreavoch

UNDERGRADUATE  ((5, 2)

1^st        Larrenie Sloeberry

2^nd        Armstrong’s Bargrennan Gigha, Blue Belton & Tan, with lots of good points, pretty head and expression, level topline, not quite as stong in front as 1.

3^rd        Mariglen Ice Crystal

GRADUATE (3)

1^st        Wilson’s Ravensett Blue Silk, light Blue Belton, balanced with clean outline, good head and expression, good bend of stifle, moved with drive.

2^nd        Johnston’s Larrenie Ruby Tuesday, dark Orange Belton, short and compact, good front and rear with level topline, moved well, preferred head of 1.

3^rd        Dykes Caleydene Remember Me

POST GRADUATE (12, 5)

1^st        Normasell’s Larrenie Brown Sugar, Orange Belton, compact with good confirmation, liked her head and expression, good lay back of shoulder, good length of upper arm, well bodied with good spring of rib, looked at her for RCC but she wouldn’t settle on the move.

2^nd        Schoneville & Derry’s Fantail’s Just Georgia Voor Balvenie, Dark, Blue Belton & Tan another compact bitch with good overall confirmation, just preferred head & expression of 1.

3^rd        Wilson’s Westonfield’s April Showers

4^th        Cooper’s Settrenda Golden Promise

5^th        Henry’s Beechanger Little Shrew

MID LIMIT (2)

1^st        Attwood’s Swannery Finlandia, classy Orange Belton, lovely clean outline, everything in proportion, lovely head with true melting expression, good front with good forechest and length of upper arm, good spring of rib, in full coat, moved well, has the elegance I was looking for.  Pleased to award her the CC, R BIS

2^nd        Callander & Isherwood’s Shambellie Angel Eyes, Blue Belton & Tan, good front and rear, balanced head with sweet expression, slightly longer in body than 1 and short of coat.  Moved well.

LIMIT (8, 1)

1^st        Taylor & Oliver’s Wansleydale Cloudberry at Bramstorm, Dark Blue Belton & Tan, I liked her clean outline, she isn’t flashy but is well balanced with lovely head and expression, excellent front, strong bone, neat feet, very sound mover, lacking in coat but a well deserved winner. RCC

2^nd        Darley’s Severnsett Dancing Queen, Blue Belton, lovely bitch, in full coat with super head and expression, elegant neck into well placed shoulder, good length of upper arm, level topline which she kept on the move, slightly longer cast that 1, moved well.

3^rd        Callander & Isherwood Shamebllie Dance Away to Laverstoke,

4^th        Swannell’s Bournhouse Secret Love at Rickery

5^th        Harris’s Bondgate Evening over Mariglen

1^st        Dennis’s Sh Ch Mariglen Francesca Fenston, elegant Orange Belton, good overall confirmation, lovely head and neck into well placed shoulder, good topline, well presented in full coat, moved well.

2^nd        Morgan & Bott’s Sh Ch Quensha Little Jeanie, another Elegant Orange with clean outline, well balanced with good body proportions, liked her head and expression, in full coat, moved well, very little between first 2 could change places anytime.
